Hot Melt

In recent years, Abrapower has collaborated with industry leaders to identify and implement innovative coating methods, delivering best-in-class products while prioritizing employee health and environmental responsibility.

The hot melt system introduces numerous features that enhance the performance of foam-coated abrasives, including but not limited to:

  • Surface integrity, this property is particularly useful in high-wear applications, where the bonded grain is exposed to continuous friction or contact
  • High tensile strength and excellent tear resistance, the excellent abrasion resistance helps protect the grain surface from wear and tear, enhancing the longevity of the bonded materials.
  • Very good mechanical properties, the material can absorb shocks and impacts, which is beneficial in applications where the bonded grain may be subject to mechanical stress.
  • The flexible nature of TPU allows it to maintain a strong bond even under dynamic conditions, where the bonded materials may experience movement or flexing.
  • Temperature stability allows for adhesive bonding in both high and low temperatures.
  • Non-toxicity – does not release harmful substances, making it safer for both the environment and human health during procession and use.

Solvent

Rubber-based nitrile – the OG

This adhesive system was initially employed in the production of foam-coated abrasives in the late 1970s, prior to the advent of modern process improvements and advancements in chemical technology.

Foam-coated abrasives originated in the small English town of Stafford, which was home to the world’s leading glue manufacturer specializing in shoe adhesives. At the time, this was the only available option for bonding foam-coated abrasives, but it proved effective and remains in use today.

Many consumers continue to prefer this type of adhesive due to its secure bond and its flexibility, which allows the bonded assembly to flex and bend without compromising bond strength.
